winds & waves

We are weathering the storm well. Our dock is underwater and we are expecting a 3-5 ft tidal surge some time today. Our high tide was at a few min before 7am.  Fortunately I added extra lines and turned the power to the dock off as well as pulled the power cable in.

You can see some of the extra lines on the bow including three as spring lines. The wind is coming form the NE so it is blowing into the bow. So there are two things to consider one of course is the wind and the second it the tide and tidal surge. These two  compete against each other. You want the lines tight enough that the boat does not bang into the dock or pilings. Yet you want some slack to allow the boat to rise with the tidal surge. In some cases you need to loosen or tighten lines allowing for good position if the boat.
The final thought is how well the fenders are holding up and they are doing quite well.

We have another high tide in the early evening so will keep a good watch on things.
Our next door neighbor who has a 28 ft center console fishing boat had his boat come off the lift and drift down the creek. It was reported to have been recovered by the local marina. His lucky day.

The weather forecast is still iffy, we may be lucky to leave on Saturday.
