Day 2

The weather is beginning to look up! It has stopped raining and the wind  has calmed down quite a bit, still breezy but not as bad. We have had very high tides in large part due to the storm but also the lunar cycle added to it with a new moon. So under normal circumstance our tide would have been higher than normal but the storm added 4-5 ft.

In this picture you can see the top of a yellow crab pot so the water is about 2 ft above the dock. The water should recede and in a few hours I will be able to comfortably get on the boat.

Before the storm intensified I had turned off the power to the dock and disconnected the boat from shore power. The boat has been running on batteries and the inverter since yesterday morning. I will fire up the generator and recharge the battery bank.

We could possibly leave tomorrow. The weather is looking good. But because we have limited access to the boat right now due to high water it makes preparation challenging. So maybe Sunday. I have included some shots from around the house for fun.

I have heard that the Great Bridge Chesapeake Va., lock on the ICW is temporarily closed due to high water. This is a must when traveling south on the intercoastal waterway. Great Bridge Lock.
